Chamonix, France

Luke was back from England late Saturday night and Sunday morning we headed out to France. It took approximately 2 hours to get to Chamonix from our house, and the drive was breathtaking. I had to close my eyes on some of the roads because I get nervous on winding mountain roads with steep drops (don't worry, Luke was driving). The city of Chamonix was absolutely amazing. The place was bustling with mountain bikers, mountain climbers, etc. I guess it shouldn't have surprised me since it sits right at the foot of Mont Blanc. We could easily spend a weekend here and not run out of things to do.

I took lots of pictures. Not all have captions, I just couldn't help taking pictures because it was so beautiful.

Here we are eating lunch with our friends Chitlesh and Mirjam

We debated taking the cable cars to the top of Mont Blanc or taking a train to the glacier. In the end, we went to the glacier because it was cheaper and faster. We were not disappointed, the glacier was amazing.
Here is a view of the glacier with tunnels carved out for the tourists.

Back outside again
Now we have to walk all the way back up

An eerie sight. Looks like a portion of the steps collapsed. Luke pointed out one lone shoe (bottom right). After this, I got up the rest of the steps as fast as possible.
A view of the glacier as we were walking back up the steps
Jack decided he wanted to walk up the steps as well
Breathtaking!

Back down in Chamonix
A neat old church and graveyard
Jack enjoyed walking the stone path from the church to the main part of town.

We will be back! Only next time we will bring our bikes, backpacks and skis!

Just the 2 of us

Luke had to go on a business trip to England for a few days this week. Jack and I did our best to stay as busy as possible so we wouldn't be lonely out in the country all alone.

On Friday we met up with my friend and her daughter and spent the whole day in Morat (a lake 15 minutes from our house).

First we went to the pools, but the kids were too cold
So we hung out for a while by the lake

Then we headed to the old part of town

Two toddlers asleep at the same time. It's a miracle!

Here is a view of the old walls
You can walk the entire length of the city on the top of these walls

Down by the lake again, you can see the old city in the distance
Once the kids woke up we found a park for them to play
It's great to have friends again!
Saturday Jack and I drove 90 minutes to Aquaparc.
It was right on the bank of Lake Geneva

I think this was one of the most beautiful places I have been in Switzerland

Jack was a little scared on the big tunnel water slides, but he still felt compelled to put his hands up...well one of them at least
Here is the indoor play pool
After a long day of swimming we visited the nearby town of Montreaux.
On a beach in Montreaux
What a view!

Jack was happy when we found a fountain

And ice cream!

Montreaux was an amazing city and I can't wait to go back with Luke. Switzerland is truly a magnificent place.
